Vindaloo is a traditional food of Goa. We can use Mutton or Lamb to make this spicy dish that is made with coconut milk, vinegar and other spices. Serve this dish with steam rice or Jeera rice

Mutton Vindaloo

Ingredients

  • 400 gms Lamb/Mutton
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Coconut Milk
  • 6 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 small Ginger
  • 3 Tablespoon Vinegar
  • ½ Teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • ½ Teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • ¼ Teaspoon Turmeric
  • 5 Red Chilli dry
  • 3 Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon
  • 5 Peppercorns
  • Oil
  • Salt to taste

Method

  1. Soak ginger, garlic, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli, cloves, cinnamon and peppercorns in vinegar and coconut milk for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. Grind these soaked spices into a fine paste.
  3. Add the grinded paste with mutton/lamb and allow it to marinate for minimum of 2 hours.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add marinated mutton, turmeric, salt and cook on a medium heat for 10 mins then add chopped onions.
  5. Add water and cover the pan and cook till the meat is tender and soft.
  6. Serve Mutton Vindaloo with Steam rice.
