Palak panner (Cottage Cheese in Spinach Gravy) is cottage cheese cooked in spinach gravy. It’s a traditional Punjabi dish, which goes well with rotis or parathas.

Palak Panner/ Cottage Cheese in Spinach Gravy

Ingredients

  • 300 gms of Spinach
  • 200 gms of Panner(Cottage Cheese)
  • 1 Green chilli, chopped finely
  • 1 Tablespoon Ginger Garlic paste
  • 1 Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 Tablespoon Kasuri Methi
  • 1 Teaspoon Garam Masala
  • ½ Teaspoon Turmeric
  • 2 Tablespoon Fresh Cream
  • 2 Tablespoon Butter
  • Salt, to taste

Method

  1. Blanch the spinach in the boiling water for few minutes.
  2. Once spinach is cool down, blend it to a smooth paste and keep aside.
  3. Take a pan, melt the butter, add chopped onion and fry till it becomes soft.
  4. Then add in ginger garlic paste and green chilli, sauté for a minute.
  5. Now add chopped tomatoes and cook till mixture leaves oil.
  6. Tomatoes should become soft and mushy.
  7. Add the spinach puree, garam masala, kasuri methi, turmeric and salt and cook on medium heat for 3 minutes.
  8. Add in the panner cubes and cook for another 4 to 5 minutes.
  9. Finally add fresh cream and give a quick stir.
  10. Serve palak panner with rotis or parathas.
    Tips and Variations:
  1. Don’t skip fresh cream that gives rich creamy texture and taste to the curry.
  2. We can even shallow fry the panner before adding in the curry.
  3. Blanching is nothing but boiling.
